7/11/1925- 12/12/2004
James Alexander Marks was born in Guyana on July 11,1925 to the late John Marks and Lydia Reid. He was the last of seven children. At age 28, James met and married Doliy Thorn. This union produced three daughters -Lorraine and Vaferie reside in neighboring Surinam, while Hazel remains in Guyana. On January, 1981, following his wife's death he married Eloise Sutton.
In 1981, James Alexander Marks - the compulsive gambler (horses), avid consumer of swine's flesh (pork) and It's products surrendered his life to Jesus at the Agricola Seventh-Day Church, East Bank Guyana. Just then, he traded his secular employment as a security guard for that of a Literature Evangelist; thereby proclaiming God's Word by offering Spirit of Prophecy books to everyone with whom he came in contact.
It must be revealed that, up until this time in his adult life, James Marks was an extremely poor reader, since he did not have the benefit of an elementary education. However, - PRAISE BE TO GOD ! - by studying the Bible and Spirit of Prophecy, he not only became an excellent reader, but also gained an enviable command of the English language. Not many years elapsed before James Marks was ordained as an Elder in his local church.
Eight years after (1989), Elder and Sister Marks migrated to the United States of America. He immediately joined the Literature Evangelist team at the Northeastern Conference of Seventh-day Adventists, with astounding success. During this period, he attached himself to this church (Brooklyn Temple), displaying a deep sense of commitment and dedication to God's cause.
Elder Marks had a passion for souls, and grasped every opportunity to uplift Jesus Christ before every man, woman and child. He lived a consecrated, sacrificial life. He was also full of compassion; always ready, willing, and wherever possible available to render service to God's church and human kind.
We firmly believe Elder James Alexander Marks fought a good fight, finished his course, kept the faith; henceforth there is laid up for him a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give him on that day; and unto all of us also that love His appearing. To cherish his memories are: His agape loving wife - Eloise; three daughters - Lorriane, Vaterie and Hazel; brother - Wilfred; sisters - Majorie & Loretta; three spiritual sons - Wilton & Fitzroy Hutton, and Wilton Ricketts; four nephews; six nieces; a great nephew; three great nieces; several other relatives; endless count of friends and a doting Church Family. |
