Mission Statement: To assist in the smooth operation of the church by maintaining accurate records. Every organization that's membership-based needs someone to keep accurate membership count and record its official business decisions. The church clerk is elected to fill this capacity in the local church.
Some of the duties of the clerk may include:
1. Attend church board meetings and business meetings to record minutes.
2. Prepare agenda for church board meetings with the assistance of the pastor and board chairman.
3. Distribute minutes of previous board meeting along with the agenda to the board members before the next meeting.
4. Maintain board meeting and business meeting records.
5. Attend conference-wide clerk's meetings.
6. Document specific job procedures.
Because the clerk is responsible to the church board, it would be well to have both the clerk and assistant clerk as members of the church board.
