Mission Statement:
To assist young people in the development of their spiritual, mental, and physical powers. The future of every church is in keeping its children and youth actively engaged in the spiritual life of the church. Christian education can play a role in helping make this a reality.
Christian education involves both formal and informal efforts to point young people toward Christian values. Opportunities to engage in these activities occur whenever the church family comes together (i.e. Sabbath mornings, mid-week services, Adventurers, Pathfinders, and other Youth meetings).
The Education Secretary can provide support to the various entities and groups involved in Christian education by gathering youth-related reports and news for the church bulletin, newsletter and website.
The Church School
Another significant opportunity for learning occurs in the Christian school setting where teachers are able to infuse Christian values in a larger way.
The Education Secretary can publicly promote and support the Christian school by highlighting its value, costs, and availability to member families. In some churches the Education Secretary serves as a "reporter" periodically sharing updates about the church school with the church family.
In light of this, it may be helpful to have the Education Secretary serve on the school and church boards.
Other Schools
Careful attention should also be given to highlight the educational needs of children who attend other schools (i.e. public and private). Encourage the church to make sure these children are viewed as being fully part of the church family. |
